“AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI” by Paramahansa Yoganandya
This important autobiography was selected as one of the 100 Best Spiritual Books of the 20th Century and has been translated into 21 languages and is still being read today. It was first published in 1946. Why was Yogananda so impressive that people all over the world want to read and learn about him?
Paramahansa Yogananda is hailed as the father of Yoga in the West. He was born on January 5, 1893 in Gorakhpur in northeastern India near the Himalayan Mountains. He was blessed to receive his spiritual training from modern-day saints and illumined masters of India. He was directed to go to America and teach the Yoga ideals. The American people were hungry for spiritual experiences at this time and his teachings about Kriya Yoga and meditation were considered spiritual food. He founded the Self-Realization Fellowship in 1920 and today the SRF has members in 175 countries.
This book should be on every book shelf. It is an amazing story of a man who followed his search for the Truth wherever it led, even half-way around the world. It is not only Yogananda’s story, but a great teaching on his spiritual philosophy.
